Automatic Sugar Cane Farm
An automatic sugar cane farm in a long stone-brick trough: sixteen canes on mud beside a water channel, with a piston behind each cane and an observer on top of each piston. When a cane grows its third block, its observer fires the pistons of its row through a line of redstone dust; the pistons break the cane above its first block and push it over the water. Hoppers under the water and under the mud (a hopper picks up items through mud) carry the cane into the double chests at the front. Built from stone bricks, mud, water, pistons, observers, redstone dust, hoppers, chests, glass panes and lanterns. No mobs needed: plant one cane on each mud block and it keeps growing back.
